The concept of MDF is born from the first letters of the words Medium Density Fiberboard. It means medium density fiberboard.
How is MDF Produced?
Approximately 90% of MDF boards are made of wood. In order to meet the desired features in the areas of use, the wood pieces obtained after hard and soft trees undergo various processes are separated into fibers by special blades by giving intense steam. Then, special adhesives and hardeners that will ensure that these fibers stick together are mixed with the fiber. The mixture is dried with hot air to the desired humidity value. The dried fibers are laid out homogeneously depending on the feature of the product to be produced. After this process, the board, whose rough outlines are given with the first pressing process, is subjected to the appropriate temperature and pressure with the second pressing process to ensure that the fibers stick together well. In the last stage, the boards coming out of the press are left to cool. After the specified cooling period is completed, they are made ready for final use by being subjected to a sanding process to have the desired thickness and smooth surface.
How to Determine the Production Variety of MDF?
They are produced in various thicknesses and densities depending on their areas of use, with a thickness of 2.5 mm to 40 mm and a density of 500-900 kg/m3. Depending on the area of use; they can be produced with a width between 1220 mm and 2500 mm and a height between 1830 mm and 4200 mm.
Where is MDF Used?
MDF, which is not inferior to solid wood in terms of its durability and physical properties, is delivered to the end user as is or with various surface options.
It can be used as an alternative to solid wood with its physical properties. One of its most prominent features is that it provides ease of use in many areas due to the homogeneous density of each point. Being able to be produced in standard sizes, its perfection in milling processes, holding the screws applied from the surface and edges well, creating a good ground for surface applications such as painting and decorative foil, PVC, wood coating etc. has made MDF a material used in All Products of the furniture sector.
